Indonesia has three lakes sitting inside the same Indonesia has three lakes sitting inside the same volcano. Each one a different color. And they change — independently, unpredictably — between turquoise, red, green, brown and black.

Scientists believe it’s caused by volcanic gases reacting with minerals in the water. But the exact mechanism? Still not fully understood.

The local Lio people of Flores believe the lakes of Kelimutu hold the souls of the dead. Each color representing a different kind of soul.

Science has no better explanation. 🌿

Venezuela has a place where lightning never stops. Venezuela has a place where lightning never stops.

The Catatumbo, where the Catatumbo River meets Lake Maracaibo, experiences up to 280 lightning strikes per hour. Every single night. For up to 300 nights a year.

It’s so constant that sailors once used it as a natural lighthouse to navigate the Caribbean. Scientists still debate exactly why it happens.

No storm. No rain. Just lightning … appearing out of nowhere, over and over, forever. ⚡

South Africa had a bar inside a 6,000-year-old tre South Africa had a bar inside a 6,000-year-old tree. And it was exactly as wild as it sounds.

The Big Baobab Tree Bar sat inside the hollow trunk of the Sunland Baobab in Limpopo. 13-foot ceilings, beer on tap, room for 15 people — all inside a living tree older than most civilizations.

In 2016 and 2017 the tree began to collapse. The bar is no longer open.

For a brief moment in history, someone put a pub inside eternity. 🌳🍺

Coober Pedy, Australia. A town so hot that 4,000 p Coober Pedy, Australia. A town so hot that 4,000 people decided to move underground.

Summer temperatures hit 50°C on the surface. So residents did the only logical thing — they carved their homes directly into the earth. Bedrooms, kitchens, churches, hotels. All underground. All perfectly livable.
The walls are rock. The temperature stays at 23°C year round. No windows needed.

They didn’t leave the desert. They just went below it. 🏜️

Longyearbyen, Norway. The town where dying is tech Longyearbyen, Norway. The town where dying is technically against the rules.
It sounds like a joke. It isn’t.
The permafrost here is so deep and so cold that buried bodies simply don’t decompose. In the 1950s, scientists discovered old graves still perfectly preserved — including traces of the 1918 Spanish flu still active in the frozen ground.
So if you’re seriously ill, they fly you out.
Nobody gets to die here. The Arctic won’t allow it. 🧊

This lake is pink because of something alive that This lake is pink because of something alive that shouldn’t be able to survive there.✨

Lake Hillier sits on Middle Island, off the coast of Western Australia, and its bubblegum-pink color has puzzled visitors since it was first spotted in 1802. The cause isn’t a filter or dye — it’s salt-loving bacteria and algae, mainly Salinibacter ruber and Dunaliella salina, that produce reddish pigments to protect themselves from the lake’s extreme salinity, which is nearly as high as the Dead Sea. These pigments are so concentrated that the entire lake stays permanently pink, day and night, regardless of weather or season. It’s also completely safe to swim in, unlike most things that thrive in water this salty.🌸

Hidden beneath the jungles of Vietnam lies Son Doo Hidden beneath the jungles of Vietnam lies Son Doong Cave, the largest cave on Earth, and it’s so enormous that it has its own weather. 🌴

Sunlight pours through massive skylights, allowing an entire rainforest to grow underground, complete with rivers, wildlife, and even clouds that form inside the cave. It feels like stepping into another world, a place so vast and untouched that many compare it to a real-life Jurassic Park. Would you dare explore it? 🌍
