Did you know that the overwater bungalow was invented in Tahiti? Signifying luxury, tropics, relaxation, and beach, the overwater bungalow originated on the neighboring island of Raiatea. The idea was created so that guests could snorkel right up to their hotel room and be more immersed with the ocean. As if Tahiti wasn’t paradise enough, there’s no need to worry about poisonous snakes or spiders while you travel: there aren’t any!

Incredible seafood is the name of the game here, and your cravings for delicacies such as fresh and grilled fish, oysters, tuna in coconut milk, BBQ, pizzas, burgers, shakes, and juices will also certainly be satisfied! Your custom top 10 will include plenty of diverse options.

The island of Tahiti, its neighboring island of Mo’orea, and many other isles of enchantment await you. You’ll feel right at home in paradise with the friendly island way of life. Pack for extremely hot and humid weather all year around; the only difference is that the summer sees more rain (November to February) and the winter is a little drier (April to September). November to March’s temperatures can rise above 88 but rarely fall below 72 while daytime from April to October sees low 80s and high 60s in the evenings.

No matter what your interests happen to be, Tripio can help you find exactly where you want to be at any given moment. We’ll always show you the very BEST things to do and places to go in town. From the top 10 once-in-a-lifetime experiences, to the most spectacular views around, to bars and restaurants, to hidden gems, we have recommended the best of the best in Tahiti on Tripio App! Take advantage of the fantastic activities we have in store for your island getaway.

Have a blast on vacation and don’t forget your sunscreen, beach/hiking shoes, camera, and a good book for the long journey.

Mount Marau Tahiti

This 11.3 mile (18.2 km) out-and-back hike near Punaauia, Tahiti is a hard challenge, but definitely worth it! It takes an average of 4-5 hours. This is a popular area for hiking; however, only fit adventurers should attempt it. It’s one of the best activities in Tahiti, albeit most challenging. Don’t forget plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen! The trail itself is easy to follow; it’s a 4×4 track for a lot of the way. While you travel up in elevation, enjoy the forest and bird sounds.

Once you reach the top, you’ll feel the effort was worth your while; green jagged mountains and valleys await, with a sweeping view of the ocean and the island Moorea in the background. Lotissement Lotus to Mont Marau is truly one of Tahiti’s best hikes and views! Elevation gain: 5000 ft (1600 m). Your hike will begin and end at (-17.592, -149.582). Start early to beat the heat and get a wonderful sunrise view! If you’re an avid hiker, put this beautiful trail on your itinerary.

Big Wave Surfing at Legendary Teahupo’o

Are you a big wave surfer ready to take it to the next level by surfing one of the hardest, most dangerous waves in the world? Head straight to Tahiti! Since the 1960s, Teahupo’o has made a name for itself as the adrenaline junkie’s wave. First of all, if you want to surf it as a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience, don’t risk your life. While it’s a top 10 wave of all time, that means it’s powerful. Pick a head-high day and get used to the fast and hollow drop first. After you have suitable confidence, go for it. Teahupo’o has three take-off spots; the hardest is the southern surf peak.

The southwest is the most popular, and the western elbow of Teahupo’o offers a backdoor experience. The wave face is much bigger than its back, so expect a heavy, liquid, tubular ride that can be surfed even in 45 foot conditions! This wave means serious business, and the whole area is covered in coral atolls, making it even more exciting, challenging, and beautiful. Pro, in-shape surfers will have a blast on this one, but anyone else should just go to watch and surf elsewhere. Teahupoo Tahiti Surfari is one company that can help you realize this dream.

If surfing this huge wave isn’t your jam, but watching pro surfers tackle it from a jetski in the water sounds like fun, travel for the Tahiti Pro Teahupo’o Surf Competition held once a year- usually in August. Despite your plan, either watching or surfing, this legendary wave should be on your itinerary.

Tahiti Adventures: Skydive over Moorea

Experience the most mind-blowing views of your life as you fall from thousands of feet towards an unbelievable landscape of islands and ocean. Skydiving in such an incredible location is something that should be on everyone’s bucket list, and Tahiti Parachutisme (aka Skydive) is the best-rated operation in the French Polynesian area. The guides are communicative, well-trained, and excited to share their passion with you. Adrenaline junkies should have this activity in their custom top 10! Get a taste of pure freedom and thrill while feeling safe. It’s not the cheapest activity, but this top thing to do in Tahiti is worth every penny. You can also opt to get pictures to remember the memories of skydiving on vacation.

Why visit one lookout when you can hike through the jungle and see two? Fans of nature and avid hikers and going to absolutely love this one! A 4 mile (6.5 km) loop trail near Tupauru’uru, Moorea; it’s considered moderately hard and takes an average of 2 hours to complete. The trail is beautiful and open all year around! It passes mares, aka the native peoples’ sacred places. The lush vegetation will welcome you into the Opunohu Valley, up to the Three Pines Lookout, then over to Belvedere Lookout (if you travel a tiny bit further to the southwest.) Enjoy the view of Cook’s Bay, the green ridges surrounding you, Mount Rotui, and pineapple plantations; essentially, gorgeous nature and photo opportunities you won’t believe all around you!

The trail is a bit rocky and has roots, so be prepared. Just pay attention to the markers and have your GPS with you. (-17.52636, -149.83495) are the coordinates where you’ll start and end the hike- right at Tiki Parc Moorea. (-17.53446, -149.81978) are the coordinates of Three Pines Lookout. Elevation gain: 932 feet (284 m). The full map can be found on the Tripio app.
