The Best Romantic Getaway In Florence, Tuscany

Florence is a beautiful historic city in Italy and is the capital of Tuscany. This region is dominated by rolling hills filled with world-class wineries and forests full of hidden truffles. The city of Florence is most famous for its collection of Renaissance art, especially the famous nude statue of ‘David’ by Michelangelo. The city itself is home to dozens of stunning art galleries, cathedrals, towers and gardens. It is a history lover’s dream. Florence and the entire region of Tuscany has pretty nice weather all year round. It does get a little chilly during the winter and typically experiences a rainy November.

The city is split almost in half by the flowing river Arno. This river is 150 miles long and flows straight into the Tyrrhenian sea. There is a lot of adventure to be had while on vacation in Florence. The river Arno is filled with an array of activities from sailing down it in a Barchetto which is a Florentine gondola to going stand-up paddle boarding and even rafting. This city has it all and not to mention delicious Tuscan food and wine. There are plenty of wine tasting tours to go on. This city very closely rivals Venice for its romance factor, I mean, it may even overtake Venice as the lesser known city of love.

The city is fairly easy to get around, definitely not by car, trust me I did it and it was terrifying! The streets are narrow, mostly one way and there is very limited parking. If you are adamant to drive something, choose a vespa as they are much easier to navigate. Walking is one of the best ways to get around, hiring a bicycle and catching the local buses. There are taxis but they are very expensive. The best way to explore the Tuscan countryside from Florence would be to take a tour where they pick you up and drop you off in Florence itself. What will you get up to in this incredible city?

Kicking off our list of the best things to do in Florence for a romantic getaway is none other than going wine tasting. Tuscany is famous for its history, food and most of all, its wine. There are over 100 wineries in Tuscany and this delicious wine gets shipped all over the world. A Tuscan wine is red and has to be made up of at least 80% Sangiovese grape. If you have ever heard of the ‘Super Tuscan’ wine, well that is made by blending a few Sangiovese grapes with non-native grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon.

A Chianti Wine Tour will depart from Florence and take you to two wineries as well as to the historic town of San Gimignano. During this tour, you will get the opportunity to taste wine, gelato and dig into a Tuscan lunch. This family-friendly tour runs for 7 hours and is a must-do while in Florence for any wine lover. A vacation to Tuscany is not complete without a wine tour.
