Adventures In The Faroe Islands

It comes as no surprise that the Faroe Islands are up and coming as one of the most sought after adventure vacation destinations. The Faroe Islands are a personal favorite destination of mine due to its still under-the-radar name and all that it has to offer. Imagine being on a tiny island in the open ocean surrounded by rolling grasslands, godly mountains, ocean cliffs, and seeing more sheep than people along the way. That is exactly what awaits you as you travel to the Faroe Islands. A discrete and mythical destination with more to offer than meets the eye. It’s no wonder that the Faroe Islands are soon to be one of the hottest travel destinations in the world! Let’s kick off the best adventures to find in the Faroe Islands.

To start us off, we have my favorite adventure destination, Saksun. This peaceful historic village resides lakeside next to the Saksun lake. Surrounding the beach, travelers will find the unique black sands that make up the area. Above the mysterious sands, a series of ridged mountains with waterfalls crumble into the lake’s waters. Explore the village, stroll through the black shores and make the adventure yours. There’s nothing quite like blazing your own trail in a place where adventure awaits in every corner.

The Witches Finger Of Faroe Islands

It is hard to beat trailing through foreign lands with breathtaking views all to come to a destination with ancient folklore and local legends that came from it. The Witches Finger is a top adventure destination for hikers and first time visitors to the Faroe Islands. This trail is moderately difficult and should be prepared for in advance. What a site to see as you travel through the North Atlantic wonderland. The legend goes that long ago this “finger” belonged to an evil witch who wanted to throw the Faroe Islands to Iceland and have them conjoined. For a story to tell, be sure to add this activity to your custom itinerary that you create using the Tripio App!

Just look at that photograph! Does the picture not sell itself? Trekking out to the Kallur Lighthouse is one of the best adventures to be had in the Faroe Islands. This travel destination is one of my personal favorites. Lush green mountainous cliffs drip off into the rolling waves of the ocean. A little red and white lighthouse awaits your visit along the ridgeline of the mountains. A simply breathtaking adventure for travelers. Don’t miss out on this beloved landmark as you create your custom travel itinerary on the Tripio App.

Fit for any kind of traveler. Enjoy the scenic views of the picturesque lighthouse nestled on top of roaring sea cliffs. Captivating scenery for anyone who visits the Mykines Lighthouse. This trail is leveled as intermediate making the landmark and all of its beauty even more rewarding. Along your way up to the Mykines Lighthouse, say hello to the fluffy, well dressed and webbed-footed native that call the cliffs of Mykines home. Yes indeed, these sea cliffs are home to the adorable and indigenous puffin species that reside throughout the Faroe Islands. Such fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. A little bit of something for everybody awaits at Mykines.

Let’s not forget about the most magical site to see in the Faroe Islands. Photos simply cannot do this dreamlike destination justice. Serenity and peace as the falls connect to their mother in the blue. The Múlafossur Waterfall is the destination that put the Faroe Islands on the travel map. A majestic waterfall flowing from the inner island finally finds its way back home to the North Atlantic Ocean. A scenic overlook across the water gives a breathtaking view of the mythical Múlafossur Waterfall. A treasure of the Faroe Islands. One activity that should not be skipped out on while creating your custom travel itinerary for the Faroe Islands.

Sørvágsvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. Imagine an enormous lake with cascading cliffs on either side of it and then the ocean blue down beneath it. That is exactly what you will find at Sørvágsvatn. This lake is three times the size of the second biggest lake within the Faroe Islands. A beautiful scenic landmark that cannot be missed out on during your visit to the Faroe Islands.

Vestmanna Sea Cliffs

The Vestmanna Sea Cliffs are a hidden gem in the Faroe Islands. On this adventure, a boat tour through the most magical sea cliffs will leave you in shock and awe. High towering cliffs embedded with stories older than humans can translate. The historic tales of another world live within the sharp-edged walls of the Vestmanna Sea Cliffs. A wild sea adventure in the comfort of a professionally guided boat is just awaiting your arrival. The perfect way to spice up your adventure vacation to the Faroe Islands.

Svartafoss Waterfall

Svartafoss Waterfall are the local falls between Hoyvik and Torshavn. This public nature preserve is a popular destination for tourists and locals to get out of the house/hotel and explore the simple pleasures of nature. To get to Svartafoss waterfall follow the short trail from the parking lot and soon enough you will find yourself at the foot of the falls. A beautiful escape to nature!

Gjogv is a small port town on the North tip of the Faroe Islands. This trial will take you straight through this little village where nearly 60 people call home. Gjogv is known for its flavorful housing, scenic backdrop and small yet unique local life. Though you pass through this small town, solitude and serenity can be found at any time of day along this trail. A beautiful way to explore the small-town living countryside of the Faroe Islands. Township, nature and everything else in between. Definitely an activity to highly consider for your first travel itinerary that you create using the Tripio App.
