Now, it’s time to experience the hustle and bustle of one of the world’s busiest intersections—the iconic Shibuya Crossing. Step into the heart of Tokyo’s vibrant Shibuya district, and as the traffic lights turn red, immerse yourself in the mesmerizing symphony of pedestrians crossing from all directions. It’s a dazzling display of organized chaos that perfectly captures the energy and spirit of this dynamic city. My personal favorite sight by the Shibuya crossing is the Hachikō Memorial Statue/

The Hachikō Memorial Statue, situated in Tokyo’s Shibuya district, is a touching tribute to a legendary dog whose loyalty touched the hearts of people worldwide. The statue commemorates the unwavering devotion of Hachikō, an Akita dog who faithfully awaited his deceased owner’s return at Shibuya Station for nearly a decade.

Hachikō’s heartwarming story began in the 1920s when he formed an unbreakable bond with his owner, Professor Hidesaburō Ueno. Each day, Hachikō would accompany his owner to Shibuya Station and patiently wait for his return. Tragically, Professor Ueno passed away, but Hachikō’s loyalty endured. For years, he continued to visit the station, faithfully waiting for his beloved owner’s return, captivating the attention and admiration of passersby.

Moved by Hachikō’s unwavering devotion, the people of Tokyo erected a bronze statue in his honor in 1934. The statue depicts Hachikō faithfully watching over Shibuya Station, capturing his unwavering loyalty and love. It has since become an iconic meeting spot and a symbol of loyalty not only in Japan but around the world.

The Hachikō Memorial Statue serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring bond between humans and animals, exemplifying the loyalty and unconditional love that dogs are known for. It has become a place of pilgrimage for dog lovers and those touched by Hachikō’s extraordinary story. Tissues anyone……

Get Naked In An Onsen

onsen Japan

From wet eyes to wet all over. As our adventure in Japan comes to a close, it’s time to unwind and rejuvenate your body and soul in a traditional Japanese onsen. Let your worries melt away as you soak in the soothing hot springs, surrounded by serene landscapes or nestled within a bustling city. Embrace the Japanese philosophy of letting go and find bliss in the simplicity of being. I must warn you though as a long standing tradition in Japan, you have to be naked to go in a traditional onsen, men and women are separated of course and you must not have any visible tattoos. This stems from the time of the Yakuza. The Yakuza had tattoos and so were not permitted in such a place of relaxation and tranquility.

It was slightly intimidating at first but after a while, it actually is quite freeing…. in every sense of the word. I can’t say I would rush at the opportunity to do it again as well….I am not in my 20’s anymore but it certainly is an experience that you shouldn’t pass up.
